Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear friends,

Good evening!

Tonight, we are gathered here to celebrate the 67th Anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, I would like to extend my warm welcome to all of you. May I also express my sincere greetings and best wishes to members of Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese Community who live and work in The Bahamas and my gratitude to friends from all walks of life who care and support the development of China-Bahamas relations.

The founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1st, 1949 marked a new era of development and progress in China. Especially since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy in 1978, under the strong leadership of Communist Party of China, profound changes have taken place and remarkable achievements have been made.Today, China has emerged as the second largest economy, the largest stockpile of foreign exchanges, the largest manufacturer and the biggest trader of goods. While achieving impressive progress in nation building, China's overall strength has grown considerably, and the living standards of Chinese People have improved significantly. The glorious journey in the past 67 years is just like a magnificent scene and a passionate song of victory.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The year of 2016 marks the beginning of the 13th Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of China, we tightly focus on the objective of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and firmly implement the concept of innovative, coordinate, green, open and shared development. In the first half of this year, China's GDP grew by 6.7 percent, its industrial upgrading and structural adjustment picked up pace. Final consumption expenditure contributed 73.4% to GDP, the added value of the tertiary industry took up 54.1% of GDP. Household income increased steadily, and 7.17 million urban jobs were created.

However, with these achievements, there are also many challenges to overcome. We are keenly aware that China is still a developing country with the largest population. The per capita GDP of China ranks around 80th in the world though it is the second largest economy. There are over 57 million rural population living under the poverty line. It will take several generations' unremitting efforts for China to become a modern country. The Chinese people are striving with confidence to realize the Chinese dream of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

China cannot develop itself in isolation from the rest of the world, nor can the world enjoy prosperity and stability without China. As we know, G20 Summit was held successfully in Hangzhou, China. Focused on the theme "Building an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy", Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed with leaders from other countries the ways to promote the world economic growth and cooperation, and achieved many significant consensus. The fruitful results of G20 Summit provide new ideas to the global economic governance and will bring new momentum achieving robust, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth.

China will continue to advance structural reform in all areas and push forward sustainable development. The Chinese government will always hold high the banner of peace, development and cooperation, pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace. China will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development and a win-win strategy of opening up. We are devoted to set up a more comprehensive, profound and diversified opening pattern by strengthening mutual cooperation with all countries in the world, including The Bahamas and contribute to global economic growth.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Bahamas is an important country in the Caribbean region. The charming natural scenery, abundant marine resources and economic and social stability make The Bahamas a world famous tourist resort. In recent years, The Bahamas has made a series of achievements in economic and social development, and played an important role in regional and international affairs with growing influence in the Caribbean region. In Rio Olympics games, Bahamian athletes obtained excellent results with a gold medal and a bronze medal. We are delighted with the achievements The Bahamas has made with respect to economic and social development.

Distance can not separate true friends who feel so close even though they are thousands of miles apart. Although China and The Bahamas, separated by vast oceans, have different historical backgrounds and cultural traditions, our two countries have always maintained mutual respect and profound friendship. Over the past 19 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China-Bahamas friendly cooperation has gained steady progress. The Bahamas has become an important partner of China in the Caribbean region. Particularly in recent years, under the guidance of the leaders of our two countries through their frequent meetings, the mutual understanding and trust have been deepened, economic and commercial cooperation has been keeping rising and cultural exchanges has been flourishing.

In January 2015, President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang respectively held cordial and friendly talks with the Prime Minister Perry Christie while the Prime Minister was attending the first ministerial meeting of China-CELAC Forum in Beijing. Furthermore, the Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa between China and The Bahamas facilitates the people-to-people exchanges. Our cooperation in various fields, such as education, health, sport, has brought tangible benefits to both peoples.

The Chinese government always attaches great importance to the development of friendly relations between our two countries. We stand ready to work with the Bahamian government and people to deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between our two peoples, to expand and deepen economic and cultural exchanges, to strengthen the coordination and mutual support in regional and international affairs, bringing great benefits to our peoples. The year of 2017 will witness the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and The Bahamas, let's join hands and work together to create a brighter future for the bilateral relations.
