On August 29, 2011, Chinese Ambassador Hu Shan called on Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham and forwarded Premier Wen Jiabao's letter of sympathy with regard to Hurricane Irene to Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.
Ambassador Hu said the Chinese government and people had the same feeling of the disaster caused by Hurricane Irene as The Bahamians. Premier Wen Jiabao cared much about the disaster, issuing at the first time, on behalf of Chinese government and people, a letter of sympathy, which fully embodied the friendship from the Chinese government and people to the Bahamian government and people. Premier Wen believed that, under the leadership by Prime Minister Ingraham and the Bahamian government, the Bahamian people have the ability to overcome the difficulties and rebuild their country better.
Prime Minister Ingraham asked Ambassador Hu to deliver his thanks to Premier Wen Jiabao. He thanked the consistent assistance and help from the Chinese government and people to the Bahamians. He said the disaster evaluation and rebuild process is going on smoothly up to now and the Bahamian can overcome the difficulties by all means.
Ambassador Hu and Prime Minister Ingraham also exchanged views on cooperative projects between the two countries.
